# Flash Flood Warning for San Miguel and Montrose Counties Through 3:30 PM
San Miguel County, CO — The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeastern San Miguel County and southeastern Montrose County through 3:30 PM MDT today.
What is happening: Doppler radar and automated rain gauges show thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the warned area, with intense rainfall rates continuing. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly where the heaviest rain is falling. The warning covers the mountain areas of west-central and southwestern Colorado.
Local impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, poor-drainage areas, and low-water crossings. Highway 145 between Norwood and Sawpit is prone to rockslides and mudslides in heavy rain — rocks and debris can come down onto the road quickly.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Avoid Highway 145 between Norwood and Sawpit while this warning is in effect, or find an alternate route.
- Stay alert for rocks and debris on roads in the mountain areas.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
