Flash Flood Warning for San Juan County Through 12:15 PM
San Juan County, Utah —
What is happening:
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern San Juan County in southeastern Utah, in effect through 11:15 AM MDT (12:15 PM CT). Around 8:10 this morning, local law enforcement reported heavy rain pouring down across the warned area, and flash flooding is already underway.
Local impacts:
Between one and two inches of rain have already fallen, and another half inch to a full inch is possible before this is over. The weather service warns of life-threatening flash flooding in creeks and streams, along with flooding on highways, streets and underpasses. This warning covers mainly rural areas of southeastern San Juan County, where normally dry washes can turn into raging water with almost no warning.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown. If you come to a flooded road, find another way — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Do not try to cross flooded washes or streams on foot or in a car.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
