Flash Flood Warning for San Juan County Through 11:45 PM
Navajo Dam, NM —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for east-central San Juan County in northwestern New Mexico, in effect until 11:45 PM Mountain time tonight. At 5:43 PM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the area — up to an inch and a half has already fallen, with another inch possible. Flash flooding is happening or about to start.
**Local impacts:** Expect flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, underpasses, and low-lying spots with poor drainage. Navajo Dam, Archuleta, and Turley are in the warning, along with Highway 64 between mile markers 74 and 86 and the Animas River corridor.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through flooded roads.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — find another route.
- Don't camp or hike near streams and washes tonight; know where the high ground is.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
