# Flash Flood Warning for Pecos County, TX Through 5:15 PM

Pecos, TX — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a flash flood warning for central Pecos County in southwestern Texas, in effect until 5:15 PM CDT Saturday.

## What is happening:

Thunderstorms are dropping heavy rain across the warned area, and flash flooding is already happening or expected to start very soon. Doppler radar showed between one and one-and-a-half inches of rain had already fallen as of 2:08 PM, with another inch possible. The warning covers mainly rural areas of central Pecos County.

## Local impacts:

Flash flooding can hit small creeks and streams, highways, streets, underpasses, and low-lying or poorly drained areas. Even in rural country, low-water crossings can turn dangerous fast in heavy rain.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through a flooded road.

- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so stay off flooded highways and streets.

- Watch for water rising across low-water crossings and find another route instead.

- Stay aware of your surroundings if you are out in the warned area.
