# Flash Flood Warning for Omaha and Council Bluffs Through 2:00 AM
Omaha, NE — Flash flooding is already occurring across the Omaha–Council Bluffs metro tonight. Emergency management reports ongoing flooding near 168th Street and Highway 370 and around Gretna, and the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southwestern Pottawattamie County in Iowa plus Douglas and Sarpy counties in Nebraska through 2:00 AM CDT.
## What is happening:
Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen, with rain still coming down at 1.5 to 3 inches an hour and another 2 to 3 inches possible. Floodwater is already rising in the metro — this is not a watch for later, it is happening now.
## Local impacts:
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways and underpasses across the metro: Omaha, Council Bluffs, Bellevue, Papillion, Ralston, Gretna, Bennington, Boys Town, Elkhorn, Millard, Offutt AFB, La Vista, Carter Lake, Valley, Springfield, Waterloo, Crescent, Cedar Creek, Aksarben and Chalco. The warning also covers stretches of Interstate 80 in Nebraska (mile markers 428–454), Interstate 29 (mile markers 43–63) and Interstate 80 in Iowa (mile markers 1–11). Do not attempt flooded interstate ramps or underpasses.
## What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown: most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Stay off flooded roadways after dark — the danger is nearly impossible to see at night.
