Loomis, Washington — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for north central Okanogan County in north central Washington through 3:30 PM Pacific time. Trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the area just after 2 PM, and flash flooding is already happening or expected to begin any minute.

What is happening: A line of thunderstorms parked over the warned area Friday afternoon is producing heavy rainfall rates. The National Weather Service says flash flooding is ongoing or about to start in small creeks, streams, and low-lying areas around Loomis, and the warning covers the afternoon hours until conditions ease.

Local impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, along with flooded roadways, underpasses, and poor-drainage spots. Some locations that will experience flooding include Loomis and the surrounding north central part of the county. Heavy rain can turn normally calm streams into dangerous, fast-moving water in minutes.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive across a flooded road.

- Be aware of your surroundings and do not walk through floodwater either.

- Move to higher ground if water starts rising near you.

- Avoid underpasses and low-water crossings, which can flood first and deepest.
