# Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Kansas Through 5:00 PM
**Northeastern Kansas —** Flash flooding is underway across a five-county stretch of northeastern Kansas, and the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Flash Flood Warning through 5:00 PM. Emergency management reported flooding from heavy rain already happening in the warned area.
**What is happening:** Between a half inch and three inches of rain have fallen, and up to another half inch is possible. Highway 24 at Excel Road in Pottawatomie County is flooded. The warning covers northwestern Geary County, northwestern Jackson County, southeastern Nemaha County, all of Pottawatomie County, and southern Riley County — including Manhattan, Junction City, Wamego, Westmoreland, Ogden, Onaga, St. George, Milford, Louisville, Circleville, Corning, Soldier, Havensville, Wheaton, Tuttle Creek Lake, Keats, and Milford Lake.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, and underpasses, along with low-lying and poor-drainage spots. Flooded roadways are the killer — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through a flooded road.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Avoid creeks, drainage ditches, and underpasses during heavy rain.
