Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Grant County Through 12:30 AM MDT

Breaking news alert for flash flood warning in Grant County, New Mexico.

Silver City, NM — The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeastern Grant County, in effect until 12:30 AM MDT.

## What is happening:

Thunderstorms are dumping heavy rain across the northeastern part of Grant County. Doppler radar showed half an inch to a full inch of rain already on the ground, with up to another half inch still possible. Flash flooding is happening now or will start very soon in the warned area.

Communities in the path of this flooding include San Lorenzo, Hurley, Cobre, Bayard, Mimbres, Hanover, North Hurley and Santa Clara, along with Shingle Canyon, Bear Canyon, Allie Canyon and Soldiers Canyon.

## Local impacts:

Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, along with urban streets, highways, underpasses and any low-lying or poor-drainage spots. Water can rise fast where it is least expected.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown. If a road is flooded, do not drive across it — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful after dark. It is much harder to spot rising water at night.

- Stay alert even where it is not raining. Arroyos, streams and rivers can turn into raging currents in minutes from rain that fell miles away.
