# Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Cibola County Through 3:00 PM MDT

**Northeastern Cibola County, NM —** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeastern Cibola County at 11:53 AM MDT Friday, with the warning in effect through 3:00 PM MDT.

## What is happening:

Slow-moving thunderstorms are dropping heavy rain just south of McCartys and San Fidel, with Doppler radar showing between three-quarters of an inch and a full inch of rain already on the ground. Forecasters say another half-inch to an inch could fall before the storms clear, and flash flooding is either happening now or will begin shortly. Communities in the warning area include McCartys, Skyline-Ganipa, Acomita Lake, and North Acomita Village — and the alert covers Interstate 40 between mile markers 94 and 98. This is a radar-indicated threat, meaning the Weather Service is tracking the deluge on radar; the flood damage threat is rated considerable.

Life-threatening flash flooding is possible along creeks and streams, in low-lying urban areas, and on highways, streets, and underpasses. Water can rise fast on I-40 and local roads across northeastern Cibola County.
