Flash Flood Warning for McKinley County Through 8:30 PM

# Flash Flood Warning for McKinley County Through 8:30 PM
McKinley County, NM —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southwestern McKinley County in west central New Mexico, in effect until 8:30 PM MDT. At 4:26 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Between three-quarters of an inch and an inch and a half of rain has already fallen, and up to another three-quarters of an inch is possible. Flash flooding is happening now or is about to begin.
**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams can flood quickly, and water can cover roads in low-lying areas. Arroyos and normally dry streambeds can turn into fast-moving, dangerous currents in minutes. Urban streets and underpasses in the warned area are also at risk.
**What to do:**
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads.
- Stay away from arroyos, streams, and normally dry riverbeds.
