Flash Flood Warning for McKinley County Through 8:00 PM

A news alert screen showing a flash flood warning for McKinley County, New Mexico.

Zuni Pueblo, NM — A flash flood warning is in effect for southwestern McKinley County in west central New Mexico until 8:00 PM Mountain time, as thunderstorms dump heavy rain on the area.

**What is happening:** At 5:35 PM Mountain time, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to three-quarters of an inch of rain has already fallen around Zuni Pueblo and Black Rock, with up to another quarter inch possible. Flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly.

**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams, low-water crossings, streets and poor-drainage areas can flood fast. Water over roadways may be deeper than it looks. If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

**What to do:**

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Do not walk into flowing water or water of unknown depth.

- Move to higher ground if water starts rising near you.
