Flash Flood Warning for McDowell County Through 9:45 PM EDT

# Flash Flood Warning for McDowell County Through 9:45 PM EDT
Welch, W.Va. — The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southwestern McDowell County in southern West Virginia, in effect until 9:45 PM EDT Friday.
**What is happening:** At 8:17 PM EDT, residents reported minor flooding along Warrior Mine Road near Warriormine. Between two and three inches of rain has already come down, and another half inch is possible before the night is over. Flash flooding is already happening in the warned area.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, along with other poor-drainage and low-lying spots. Communities in the path include War, Bradshaw and Cucumber. McDowell County's hill country has hundreds of low-water crossings that become treacherous quickly in heavy rain.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads.
- Do not try to cross a flooded roadway. Find another route.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — if you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- If you can do so safely, report flooding to the National Weather Service at 800-401-9535.
