# Flash Flood Warning for Maricopa County Through 9:30 AM MST

**Maricopa County, Arizona —** Rain gauges are confirming what radar already suggested: thunderstorms parked over parts of Maricopa County have dumped up to an inch and a quarter of rain since before dawn, and more is on the way. The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Flash Flood Warning through 9:30 AM MST.

**What is happening:** As of 4:31 AM MST, gauges reported heavy rain from slow-moving thunderstorms across the warned area. Between three-quarters of an inch and 1.25 inches have already fallen, and forecasters say another 0.75 to 1.25 inches could fall before morning is out. Flash flooding is ongoing or about to begin in the hardest-hit spots. Skunk Creek is running high on gauges, a sign low-water crossings nearby could flood quickly.

**Local impacts:** Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, streets, and low-water crossings. Areas expected to see flooding include Phoenix, New River, Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, and Seven Springs.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Avoid low-water crossings and underpasses, which can flood with almost no warning.

- If you live near a normally dry creek or wash, stay alert for rising water this morning.
