Kimble County, Texas — The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Kimble County in west central Texas, in effect until 6:00 AM CDT Thursday.

What is happening: At 3:00 AM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across Kimble County. As much as three inches of rain has already fallen in some spots, and another inch or two is possible before the storms move on. Flash flooding is happening now or about to begin.

Local impacts: Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, along with urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. Places likely to see flooding include Junction, Segovia, South Llano River State Park, Telegraph, and Roosevelt, plus US-83 near the Kerr-Kimble County line and US-377 near the Kimble-Edwards County line.

What to do: Turn around, don't drown — never drive through a flooded road. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. In hilly country there are hundreds of low water crossings that turn dangerous fast in heavy rain — find an alternate route. Be extra careful overnight, when it is harder to see floodwater.
