Zion National Park, Utah —

## What is happening:

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Flash Flood Warning for western Kane County and east central Washington County in southern Utah, in effect until 9:00 PM MDT Monday.

At 4:57 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across portions of Zion National Park, and forecasters expect heavier rain to move into the area over the coming hours. In canyon country, that water funnels fast — washes and slot canyons can go from dry to dangerous in minutes.

## Local impacts:

Flash flooding is occurring or about to begin in the warned area. Low-water crossings, normally dry washes, and narrow canyons are the danger zones, especially around Zion National Park. Hikers, campers, and drivers in the backcountry are at the highest risk.

## What to do:

- Move to higher ground right now — do not wait to see the water rise.

- Stay away from streams, rivers, and creek beds, even ones that look dry.

- Campers and hikers should get out of canyons and avoid crossing washes.

- Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around.
