Flash Flood Warning for Jackson, Shawnee and Wabaunsee Counties Through 6:00 PM

# Flash Flood Warning for Jackson, Shawnee and Wabaunsee Counties Through 6:00 PM
**Northeastern Kansas —** The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Shawnee County, northeastern Wabaunsee County and south-central Jackson County in east-central Kansas, in effect through 6:00 PM CDT Thursday.
**What is happening:** At about 1:58 PM CDT, Doppler radar showed heavy rain hammering the warned area. Between half an inch and two inches have already fallen, with up to another inch possible. Flash flooding is happening now or about to start.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways and underpasses, along with other low-lying and poor-drainage spots. Towns in the path include Rossville, Silver Lake, Hoyt, Maple Hill and Willard — and this includes Interstate 70 through the area. If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
**What to do:**
- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around, don't drown.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so get off the road while the rain keeps falling.
- Keep away from creeks and ditches; fast-rising water can surprise you.
