Flash Flood Warning for Howard, Dawson, Borden and Martin Counties Through 3:15 PM

# Flash Flood Warning for Howard, Dawson, Borden and Martin Counties Through 3:15 PM

**Ackerly, Texas —** A Flash Flood Warning continues for parts of Howard, Dawson, Borden, and Martin counties in west Texas, in effect through 3:15 PM CDT today, from the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa.

**What is happening:** At 1:06 PM CDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have come down, and flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Towns in the warned area include Ackerly, Gail, Vealmoor, and Knott. This is an updated continuation of the earlier warning for this part of west Texas.

**Local impacts:** The Weather Service describes this as life-threatening flash flooding — creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses are all at risk. Rural low-water crossings can flood with little warning.

**What to do:**

- Turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — never drive on flooded roads.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when it is safe to do so, and ask them to pass it on to the National Weather Service.
