Flash Flood Warning for Hamilton and Kearny Counties Through 12:45 PM

Southeastern Hamilton County and Central Kearny County, Kansas — The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of southwestern Kansas, effective until 12:45 PM CT (11:45 AM local mountain time).
What is happening:
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are moving across southeastern Hamilton County and central Kearny County this morning. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, and rain is coming down at 1 to 2 inches per 2 hours in the heaviest storms. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Local impacts:
Small streams and creeks could rise quickly. Low-lying areas, poor-drainage spots, and rural roads are at risk of sudden flooding. Anyone traveling in southwestern Kansas this morning should expect water on roadways.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
