Southwestern New Mexico —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in El Paso/Santa Teresa has issued a flash flood warning for south-central Sierra County, eastern Grant County, and northeastern Luna County in southwestern New Mexico, in effect through 3:45 AM MDT Tuesday. At 1:52 AM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:** Up to an inch of rain has already fallen, with up to a quarter inch more possible. Forecasters warn of flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban streets, highways, and low-lying areas. Water can rise fast on already saturated ground.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown.

- Stay clear of low water crossings and underpasses.

- Keep weather alerts on while you sleep.

- Move to higher ground if water starts rising near your location.
