Flash Flood Warning for Grant and Sierra Counties Through 7:45 PM MDT

Deming, NM — The National Weather Service in El Paso/Santa Teresa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southwestern Sierra County and eastern Grant County in southwestern New Mexico, in effect through 7:45 PM MDT.
What is happening: At 4:44 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Between one and one and a half inches of rain has already fallen, and up to another half inch is possible. Flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly.
Local impacts: Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban streets, highways, and underpasses. In hilly terrain, low-water crossings can turn dangerous fast in heavy rain.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive on a flooded road.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — six inches of moving water can knock you down, twelve can sweep a car away.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
