Flash Flood Warning for Gila County Through Noon

Breaking news alert for flash flood warning in Gila County, Arizona.

Gila County, Arizona — The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Billy Fire scar area of Gila County in east central Arizona, in effect until noon MST today, November 1.

What is happening: Thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over the burned scar ground are sending dangerous floodwater downhill. Radar picked up the heavy rain at 8:56 AM MST, and forecasters say flash flooding is happening now or about to start in and around the scar. Burned ground cannot soak up rain the way healthy ground can, so water runs off fast and rises quickly.

Local impacts: Forecasters call this life-threatening flash flooding. Low water crossings downstream of the scar will flood fast and become impossible to cross. Creeks, streams, and washes in the area can rise in minutes.

What to do:

- Do not drive through flooded roads. Turn around and find another route.

- Stay away from creeks, streams, and washes.

- If water is rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Never try to cross a flooded low water crossing on foot or in a vehicle.
