Flash Flood Warning for Gila and Maricopa Counties Through 12:15 PM

Gila and Maricopa Counties, Arizona — The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Gila County in east central Arizona and Maricopa County in south central Arizona, in effect until 12:15 PM MST (1:15 PM CT) today, November 1.
What is happening:
Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area Sunday morning. Between half an inch and an inch and a quarter of rain has already fallen, and another quarter to half inch is possible. Flash flooding is already happening or expected to begin shortly.
Local impacts:
This is life-threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding can flood creeks and streams, city streets and highways, underpasses, and low-water crossings. In hilly terrain, hundreds of low-water crossings can turn dangerous fast in heavy rain.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown when you come to a flooded road. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Never try to cross a flooded road. Find another route.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Stay away from creeks, washes, and low-water crossings until the warning ends.
