Flash Flood Warning for Gallia, Meigs, Jackson and Mason Counties Through 7:15 PM

Gallia and Meigs Counties, Ohio, and Jackson and Mason Counties, West Virginia —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Warning for east-central Gallia County and southeastern Meigs County in southeast Ohio, plus west-central Jackson County and northwestern Mason County in western West Virginia. The warning runs through 7:15 PM EDT Sunday.
At 4:20 PM, weather radar showed slow-moving thunderstorms dropping heavy rain right over the warned area. Between a half-inch and an inch of rain had already fallen, and more was on the way — so flash flooding is either happening now or about to start. This is radar-indicated, meaning the storms themselves are producing the downpour.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, along with water pooling in urban spots, on highways and on local streets. Half an inch of rain in a short burst is enough to send small waterways over their banks fast in this kind of setup.
**What to do:**
- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in cars, not in homes.
- If water is rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Keep kids and pets away from swollen creeks and drainage ditches.
- If you spot flooding, you can report it to the National Weather Service toll-free at 800-401-9535, once it's safe to call.
