Flash Flood Warning for Four New Mexico Counties Through 2:30 AM

Northwestern New Mexico — The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Sandoval County, southeastern San Juan County, northeastern Cibola County, and northeastern McKinley County through 2:30 AM CT Friday.
**What is happening:** At 7:28 PM Mountain time, Doppler radar picked up thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and up to three-quarters of an inch more could come down tonight. Flash flooding is happening now in some spots or will start very soon.
**Local impacts:** The flooding is targeting small creeks and streams, plus urban streets, highways, underpasses, and low-lying ground. Towns in the warning include Pueblo Pintado, Ojo Encino, Torreon Navajo Mission, Counselor, San Mateo, and Torreon. Highway 550 between mile markers 74 and 99 is also inside the warned stretch.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads; most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Be extra careful after dark, when it is much harder to judge how deep the water is.
