UPDATE — Tuesday, September 29, 4:20 AM MDT: The National Weather Service has extended this warning until 6:30 AM MDT. Radar and rain gauges show thunderstorms still dropping heavy rain across southwestern Emery County — flash flooding is ongoing or about to begin, including Goblin Valley and the Little Wild Horse, Crack, Chute, Ding and Dang slot canyons.

Emery County, Utah —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a flash flood warning for southwestern Emery County in central Utah, in effect through 4:30 AM MDT Tuesday. Around 1:37 AM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges picked up thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the area, and flash flooding is underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:** Forecasters describe life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, normally dry washes, and low-water crossings. Overnight rain is funneling fast into normally dry drainages across the southwestern part of the county.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown.

- Stay away from dry washes and slot canyons overnight; water can arrive with little warning.

- Keep phones charged and weather alerts on while you sleep.

- If you are camping, move to higher ground now.
