Flash Flood Warning for Emery County Through 5:15 PM

A weather alert screen showing a flash flood warning for Emery County, Utah.

Emery County, Utah — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Emery County until 5:15 PM MDT this afternoon, issued by the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.

What is happening: Doppler radar is tracking thunderstorms producing heavy rain across central Utah. Between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch of rain has already fallen in the warned area, and flash flooding is either happening now or is about to begin. The warning includes Goblin Valley and Interstate 70 between mile markers 124 and 149.

Local impacts: Life-threatening flash flooding is possible in creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. The National Weather Service warns that dry washes, streams and rivers can turn into raging currents within minutes — even in spots that are not seeing rain right now, because runoff can travel down from distant storms.

What to do:

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Avoid low crossings on I-70 and side roads; seek higher ground if water is rising.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Remain alert for flooding even in places not currently receiving rain.
