UPDATE — Thursday, October 1, 10:10 AM CT: NWS Fort Worth reports up to 3.5 inches of rain have fallen across Ellis and Johnson counties, with up to 2 more inches possible. The Flash Flood Warning continues through 12:30 PM CDT; flash flooding of creeks, highways and low-lying areas is ongoing or expected shortly.
Northwestern Ellis County and Johnson County, Texas — The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of north central Texas, effective until 12:30 PM CT.
What is happening:
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are moving across northwestern Ellis County and all of Johnson County this morning. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges show up to 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 2 inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Local impacts:
Small creeks and streams may flood quickly, and urban areas with poor drainage could see water rising on streets. Roads in low-lying areas are the biggest risk — do not assume a familiar road is safe.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive on flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid low-water crossings.
