# Flash Flood Warning for Edwards and Val Verde Counties Through 10:00 AM

**Rocksprings, Texas —** The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Edwards County and east-central Val Verde County in south-central Texas, in effect through 10:00 AM CDT Thursday.

## What is happening:

Thunderstorms are dropping heavy rain over the warned area before dawn. At 4:17 AM, Doppler radar showed storms producing heavy rainfall across northwestern Edwards and east-central Val Verde counties. Between one and three inches of rain have already fallen, and another one to three inches are possible before morning — enough to push creeks and streams out of their banks.

## Local impacts:

The Weather Service warns of life-threatening flash flooding — creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying spots can flood quickly. Places that will see flash flooding include Loma Alta, Vinegarone and the Devils River State Natural Area Del Norte.

## What to do:

- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra cautious at night; it is harder to see the dangers of flooding after dark.

- Campers and hikers should stay away from streams and creeks, which can turn deadly in heavy rain.
