Flash Flood Warning for Ector and Midland Counties Through 10:00 AM

Midland, Texas — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for east central Ector County and northwestern Midland County in western Texas, in effect until 10:00 AM CDT Friday.
What is happening: Thunderstorms producing heavy rain moved across the warned area early Friday morning. Doppler radar showed between a half inch and an inch of rain had already fallen by 3:16 AM, with up to another inch possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Local impacts: Small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying and poor-drainage spots are at risk of flooding. Places in the warned area include Midland, Odessa, West Odessa, Midland International Air and Space Port, and Cotton Flat.
What to do:
- Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra careful driving before dawn, when it is harder to see water on the road.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid roads known for poor drainage.
