Flash Flood Warning for Eastern Kentucky Through 1:00 PM

Owingsville, Kentucky — Heavy thunderstorms have dropped 1 to 2.5 inches of rain across parts of eastern Kentucky this morning, and flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
What is happening:
At 9:54 AM Eastern, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain over northwestern Bath County and central Fleming County. Up to another inch of rain is possible. The National Weather Service in Jackson has a Flash Flood Warning in effect for both areas until 1:00 PM Eastern.
Local impacts:
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, and underpasses is happening now or will begin soon in the warned area. Roads in low spots can flood quickly with this kind of rainfall.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive across flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Avoid low-water crossings and underpasses, which flood first.
- Keep an eye on local streams and be ready to move to higher ground.
