Flash Flood Warning for Eastern Cochise County Through 4:45 PM

Cochise County, Arizona — The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a Flash Flood Warning for eastern Cochise County in southeastern Arizona, in effect through 4:45 PM MST Sunday (5:45 PM CT).
What is happening: Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are moving into eastern Cochise County. Some spots have picked up a half inch to an inch so far, and these storms have a history of dropping one to two inches across the western part of the county. With soils already saturated, runoff is sending swift water into normally dry washes, dips in the road, and other flood-prone spots. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.
Local impacts: Small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and low-lying areas are subject to flash flooding. Communities in the warned area include Douglas, Bisbee, Portal, Naco, Bowie, Pirtleville, Elfrida, Sunizona, McNeal, and San Simon, along with Chiricahua National Monument and Bisbee-Douglas Airport.
What to do:
- Never drive through a flooded road. Turn around, do not drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Keep away from washes and low-water crossings during heavy rain.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
