Flash Flood Warning for Duval, Jim Wells and Kleberg Counties Through 11:00 AM

Kingsville, Texas — The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of Duval, Jim Wells and Kleberg counties in south central Texas, in effect until 11:00 AM Central Time today, Sunday, November 8.
What is happening:
Thunderstorms are dropping heavy rain across the warned area this morning. Radar and automated rain gauges show between 2 and 5 inches of rain have already fallen, and another 2 to 4 inches are possible before the rain lets up. Flash flooding is already happening in spots and is expected to begin shortly in others. The warning covers southeastern Duval County, southwestern Jim Wells County and northwestern Kleberg County.
Local impacts:
Rising water is a threat for small creeks and streams, city streets, highways and underpasses, and low-lying spots with poor drainage. Communities in the warned area include Kingsville, Benavides, Palito Blanco, San Jose, Ben Bolt, Rios and Cruz Calle. The warning also covers U.S. Highway 281 between mile markers 678 and 698.
What to do:
Turn around, do not drown. Never drive through a flooded road, and never drive around a barricade.
Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so if you come to water over the road, find another way.
If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
Stay away from creeks, streams and drainage ditches during heavy rain.
Do not walk through moving water. Even a few inches of fast-moving water can knock a person down.
