Flash Flood Warning for Dawson and Gaines Counties Through 10:00 AM

Weather alert graphic for flash flood warning in Texas counties.

Dawson and Gaines Counties, Texas — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Dawson and Gaines Counties in western Texas, in effect through 10:00 AM Central Time on Friday, October 30.

What is happening: Heavy rain from showers moving across the warned area has already dropped between 1 and 2 inches, according to Doppler radar and automated rain gauges. Up to 1 more inch of rain is possible, and flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly across both counties.

Local impacts: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms can quickly fill low-lying roads, small creeks, and normally dry drainage areas. Water can rise fast in places that look passable, and flooded roadways are especially dangerous before daylight when depth is hard to judge.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Stay aware of your surroundings and keep off flooded roads entirely.

- If you see flooding, report it to local emergency services or law enforcement so the information can reach the National Weather Service.

- Move to higher ground if water starts rising near you.
