**Custer and Pueblo Counties, Colo. —** A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the Middle Aspen Acres Burn Scar in east-central Custer County and west-central Pueblo County in southeastern Colorado through 2:30 PM MDT Wednesday.

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Pueblo issued the warning at 11:36 AM MDT after Doppler radar showed thunderstorms pouring heavy rain over the Middle Aspen Acres Burn Scar. Up to an inch of rain has already fallen, and the storms are dropping rain at roughly three-quarters of an inch per hour. Another inch of rain is possible before the storms clear, and flash flooding is either underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:** This is a dangerous setup. When a hillside has burned, the ground behaves like pavement — water that would normally soak in rushes downhill in minutes. That means life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads, and normally dry washes, and the heavy rain is also likely to trigger rockslides in and around the burn scar.

**What to do:**

- Move away from the burn-scar area and get to higher ground immediately — this is a life-threatening situation.

- Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around and find another route.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Stay away from creeks, arroyos, and recently burned slopes, where water and debris can arrive with almost no warning.
