Flash Flood Warning for Curry and Quay Counties Through 7:45 PM MDT

Curry County, New Mexico — Heavy thunderstorms have dropped two to two and a half inches of rain across parts of eastern New Mexico, and the National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Curry County and south-central Quay County through 7:45 PM MDT.
What is happening: Doppler radar shows thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the warned area, and flash flooding is already underway or expected to begin shortly. The warning runs through 7:45 PM MDT Sunday evening.
Local impacts: Small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, and low-lying underpasses can flood quickly in this kind of downpour. Water can rise fast on roadways, and it takes only a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the road.
What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through a flooded road.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so if you meet rising water, back up and find another route.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid walking through flooded areas.
