Flash Flood Warning for Curry and Quay Counties Through 2:15 AM

Curry and Quay Counties, NM — The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for north central Curry County and southeastern Quay County until 2:15 AM MDT, as thunderstorms drop heavy rain over the area.

What is happening: Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area around 11:10 PM MDT. Between one and two inches of rain have already fallen, with up to another inch possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, including along Highway 275 east of Wheatland.

Local impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, plus other poor-drainage and low-lying spots. Grady and Wheatland are among the locations expected to see flash flooding.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Use extra caution tonight — it is harder to spot flooded roads in the dark.

- If water starts rising near you, head for higher ground and do not cross flooded roadways.

- Never walk or drive through floodwater of unknown depth.
