Flash Flood Warning for Crockett and Sutton Counties Through 6:00 AM

Southeastern Crockett County and southwestern Sutton County, Texas — The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of west central Texas, in effect until 6:00 AM CDT Thursday.

What is happening: At 3:00 AM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain over southeastern Crockett County and southwestern Sutton County. Between one and three inches of rain have already fallen, and another half inch to an inch and a half is possible. Flash flooding is underway or expected to begin shortly.

Local impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying and poor-drainage areas. The intersection of Highway 163 and Ranch Road 1973 is among the spots likely to flood, along with low water crossings across the warned area.

What to do: Turn around, don't drown — never drive on a flooded road. Stay aware of your surroundings, especially around dips and crossings. In hilly terrain, low water crossings can flood quickly in heavy rain — find an alternate route. Be extra cautious at night, when floodwater is hardest to recognize.
