# Flash Flood Warning for Cooke and Montague Counties Through 5:00 AM

**Cooke County, Texas —** The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Cooke County and Montague County in north-central Texas, in effect through 5:00 AM Thursday.

## What is happening:

Doppler radar showed thunderstorms pushing back into Montague and northwest Cooke counties early Thursday morning, dropping heavy rain on ground that has already taken a beating. Radar estimates 1 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen over the past several hours, and another 1 to 3 inches could fall in the warned area. A new round of heavy rain means flash flooding is likely.

## Local impacts:

Small creeks and streams can rise fast, and low-water crossings and poorly drained roadways may flood with little warning. Water levels can climb quickly where the heaviest rain falls. This is happening overnight, when rising water is hardest to spot.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful at night, when it is harder to see how deep water really is.

- If you live near a creek or low-water crossing, stay alert and move to higher ground if water starts rising.
