# Flash Flood Warning for Coconino County Through 6:45 AM MST

**Coconino County, AZ —** A flash flood warning is in effect for the Paria River and surrounding canyon country until 6:45 AM MST this morning, after a river gauge in Utah reported a rapid 4.47-foot rise on the Paria River from heavy rain.

## What is happening:

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly along the Paria River as the flood wave moves downstream through Arizona. The National Weather Service in Flagstaff rates the flash-flood damage threat as considerable. The warning covers the Paria River from upstream through Paria Canyon and the Paria River Slot Canyon, past Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, and into Lees Ferry — including the Colorado River near mile marker 0.

## Local impacts:

Life-threatening flash flooding is possible in and around the Paria River, including slot canyons, recreation areas, and campgrounds such as the Lees Ferry Camp Site. Flood waters will flow down the Paria River to its confluence with the Colorado River at Lees Ferry. Slot canyons are especially dangerous — water can arrive fast and rise without warning.

## What to do:

- Get out of the Paria River slot canyon immediately if you are in or near it

- Do not camp in low-lying areas near the river or in washes tonight

- Do not try to cross flooded washes or roads — turn around, don't drown

- Keep an eye on the sky upstream; heavy rain far away can send a flood wave your way
