Flash Flood Warning for Coconino County Through 4:45 PM

Coconino County, Arizona — The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Paria River in Coconino County in north central Arizona, in effect until 4:45 PM MST (5:45 PM CT) today, November 1.
What is happening:
A river gauge on the Paria River in southern Utah reported a rapid rise Sunday morning after heavy rain fell over the Paria River area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly along the river.
Local impacts:
This is life-threatening flash flooding in and around the Paria River. Flood waters will run down the Paria River and reach the confluence with the Colorado River at Lees Ferry between 5 PM and 8 PM tonight. Slot canyons along the river are especially dangerous because flood water can arrive with little warning.
What to do:
- Get out of the Paria River slot canyon now. Do not wait for the water to arrive.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Never cross a flooded road or wash. Turn around, don't drown.
- Stay clear of the Paria River and its side canyons until the warning ends.
