**UPDATE — Tuesday, September 29, 12:17 AM MST:** The Cataract Creek river gauge has begun a slow decline after the five-foot rapid rise earlier tonight, but forecasters say flash flooding in the Havasu Creek basin is likely still ongoing.

Coconino County, Arizona —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a flash flood warning for the Havasu Creek basin in north central Arizona, in effect through 2:45 AM MST Tuesday. At 7:56 PM MST, a river gauge on Cataract Creek registered a sudden five-foot rise as thunderstorms dumped heavy rain over the basin. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:** Forecasters describe life-threatening flash flooding in and around the Havasu Creek basin, including the Colorado River between river miles 156 and 158. Rushing water is moving through canyon country that includes Little Navajo Falls, Mooney Falls, and Beaver Falls, along with the village of Supai, Hualapai Hilltop, and the Havasupai Reservation. In the Supai Campground, footbridges are expected to wash out and some campsites will flood.

**What to do:**

- Campers and hikers: get to higher ground immediately — do not wait.

- Stay away from creeks and washes; water levels can surge without warning.

- Do not attempt to cross flooded trails, footbridges, or low water crossings.

- Campers may be stranded in parts of the campground — move uphill before routes are cut off.
