# Flash Flood Warning for Coconino and Yavapai Counties Through 8:15 PM

Sedona, AZ —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Coconino County in north central Arizona and Yavapai County in west central Arizona, running through 8:15 PM MST tonight. At 2:09 PM, repeated heavy thunderstorms pushed Oak Creek at Sedona up nearly 6 feet — and the water is still rising. Flash flooding is happening right now.

**Local impacts:** The Weather Service is calling this life-threatening flash flooding. Creeks and streams, normally dry washes, urban streets, highways and underpasses are all at risk of sudden flooding. Areas in the path include Sedona and Uptown Sedona, Cornville, Jordan, Page Springs, Indian Gardens, Pine Flats, Red Rock State Park, Slide Rock State Park, the West Fork of Oak Creek and the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness. Dirt roads will turn muddy and impassable; paved roads and underpasses can flood too.

**What to do:**

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown.

- Stay out of washes, creeks and low-water crossings; water can rise faster than it looks.

- Do not walk through moving water — six inches can knock you down.
