Flash Flood Warning for Clay County Through 12:45 AM

# Flash Flood Warning for Clay County Through 12:45 AM

Henrietta, TX — Runoff from earlier thunderstorms is pushing creeks and low spots toward flood stage in southern Clay County, and the National Weather Service in Norman has extended the Flash Flood Warning there through 12:45 AM CDT Thursday.

## What is happening:

Doppler radar and automated gauges show that between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain already fell over parts of southeastern Clay County earlier tonight. The heaviest rain has ended, and forecasters expect an inch or less of additional rain — but the water already on the ground is enough to keep flash flooding going in low-lying areas.

## Local impacts:

Expect flash flooding of small creeks and streams, along with flooded streets, highways and underpasses and other poor-drainage spots. Communities in the warned area include Windthorst, Bellevue, Bluegrove, Newport, Joy, Vashti and Shannon. Driving after dark makes floodwater especially hard to judge.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown: never drive across a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Be extra cautious at night, when it is harder to recognize how deep or fast the water is.
