Central Clark County, Nevada — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for central Clark County in southern Nevada through 3:45 PM PDT Friday, after thunderstorms dropped heavy rain across the area and radar showed flash flooding already underway or about to begin.

What is happening: The National Weather Service office in Las Vegas issued the warning at 12:43 PM PDT, when Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the warned area. Up to an inch of rain had already fallen, and forecasters warned that flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The warning covers central Clark County, including Henderson, Lake Las Vegas, Las Vegas Bay, the Las Vegas Bay Campground area, and Railroad Pass.

Local impacts: The Weather Service calls this life-threatening flash flooding. Creeks and streams can rise fast, and water can flood urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses with little warning. Even a short drive through a flooded stretch can turn dangerous in seconds, and water depth on a road is hard to judge from inside a car.

What to do:

- Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Move to higher ground right away if water starts rising around you.

- Stay off flooded streets and away from creeks and drainage channels.

- Report flooding you see to local emergency services or law enforcement when you can do so safely, so the information can reach the National Weather Service.
