Flash Flood Warning for Cibola County Through 11:30 PM

Cibola County, NM —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Cibola County, in effect until 11:30 PM Mountain time tonight. Around 6:02 PM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms sitting over the warned area, dropping heavy rain. As much as an inch and a half has already fallen, and up to three-quarters of an inch more is possible. Flash flooding is happening now or about to begin.
**Local impacts:** Expect flooding in small creeks and streams, city streets and underpasses, and any low-lying or poor-drainage spots. Southeastern Cibola County is the target zone — anyone near arroyos or normally dry washes should be alert, because desert waterways can turn into raging currents within minutes.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Move to higher ground right now if water is rising near you.
- Stay off low-water crossings in hilly terrain; they go under fast in heavy rain.
