# Flash Flood Warning for Central Terrell County Through 6:30 AM
Terrell County, Texas — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Terrell County in southwestern Texas, in effect until 6:30 AM CDT Thursday.
What is happening: At 3:55 AM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over central Terrell County. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and another inch of rain is possible before the morning is out. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin very shortly.
Local impacts: Small creeks and streams are rising, along with flooding in low-lying urban spots, along highways, and across hundreds of low-water crossings in this hilly terrain. Those crossings can become life-threatening in heavy rain. The danger is hardest to see after dark, when it's nearly impossible to judge how deep floodwater is.
What to do:
- Never drive into flooded roadways. Turn around, don't drown — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra cautious overnight, when rising water is harder to spot.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Stay out of low-water crossings; they flood first and fastest.
