Leasburg, Radium Springs, Dona Ana and Hill will see flash flooding. The warning runs through 5:30 PM MDT.

**UPDATE — Monday, September 28, 6:05 PM CT:** Heavy rain has ended for now, but runoff is still flooding low-water crossings along Highway 185 between Hatch and Radium Springs — public photos showed Bignell Arroyo near mile marker 28 impassable. The Weather Service calls this life-threatening flash flooding with a considerable damage threat.

Dona Ana County, New Mexico — Torrential thunderstorms are drenching the middle of Dona Ana County this afternoon, and the National Weather Service has placed central Dona Ana County under a Flash Flood Warning until 5:30 PM MDT Monday.

What is happening:

The National Weather Service in El Paso and Santa Teresa issued the warning at 3:57 PM MDT for central Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico. At that time, thunderstorms were dumping rain at up to 3 inches an hour while drifting between Radium Springs and Dona Ana. Forecasters say flooding is expected on several low-water crossings along Del Rey Boulevard and La Reina Road, with more flooding likely near the community of Hill. Leasburg, Radium Springs, Dona Ana and Hill are in the warned area.

Local impacts:

Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban streets and highways, underpasses, and other low-lying and poor-drainage spots. Rain this heavy can turn normally dry crossings dangerous within minutes.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through a flooded road.

- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Low-water crossings in hilly terrain can become deadly in minutes — do not try to cross; find another route.
