Flash Flood Warning for Carter, Garvin, and Stephens Counties Through 5:15 AM
# Flash Flood Warning for Carter, Garvin, and Stephens Counties Through 5:15 AM
**Southern Oklahoma —** The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Carter County, Garvin County, and eastern Stephens County in southern Oklahoma through 5:15 AM Thursday.
## What is happening:
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are sitting over southern Oklahoma early this morning. Radar estimates two to three inches of rain have already fallen across the warned area, with another two inches possible before the storms move on. Flash flooding is already underway or about to begin in low-lying and flood-prone spots.
## Local impacts:
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, and underpasses. Urban areas and places with poor drainage are at the highest risk. A flash flood means water can rise fast — a road that looks fine can become impassable in minutes.
## What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra careful at night. It is harder to see rising water in the dark.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Move cars out of low spots before water reaches them.
