Flash Flood Warning for Cameron County Through 1:15 PM

Cameron County, Texas — The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Cameron County in deep south Texas until 1:15 PM CST today, Sunday, November 8.

What is happening:

Doppler radar and automated rain gauges show heavy rain falling across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, with rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Another 1.5 to 4 inches of rain are possible before the warning ends. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

The warning covers San Benito, Los Fresnos, Rancho Viejo, Rio Hondo, Laureles, Olmito, Cameron Park, the Port of Brownsville, Southmost, downtown Brownsville, La Paloma, Lincoln Park, and surrounding communities.

Local impacts:

Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Water can rise quickly in spots that usually stay dry, and roads can flood with little warning.

What to do:

Turn around, do not drown. Never drive on a flooded road.

Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so do not try to cross water of unknown depth.

Be aware of your surroundings and stay off flooded roads.

If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when you can do so safely.
