# Flash Flood Warning for Burke and Caldwell Counties Through 1:00 PM

**Lake James, North Carolina —** Life-threatening flash flooding is gripping the mountains of western North Carolina, and the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Burke and Caldwell counties, in effect through 1:00 PM EDT. Stream gauges report that Wilson Creek and Johns River will stay in flood all afternoon, and forecasters say the warning will likely be extended.

**What is happening:** Heavy rain has pushed creeks and rivers out of their banks across the warned area. Flooding is hitting creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses.

**Local impacts:** Places that may see flash flooding include Table Rock, Lake James and Lake James State Park, Linville Falls, the Blue Ridge Parkway between Linville Falls and Grandfather Mountain, Jonas Ridge, and Edgemont. If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

**What to do:**

- Be aware of your surroundings and never drive on flooded roads.

- If water starts rising near you, move to higher ground right away.

- Avoid underpasses and low-lying streets where water collects fast.
